*Police Dismiss Report Of Victims’ Rescue
THERE were tears and anguish on Friday, May 22, as the remains of one of the teachers killed during the coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Council of Oyo State, Adesiyan Adegboye, were buried at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.
The burial rites started with a service at the Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso for 49-year-old Adegboye, who was killed at the scene of the abduction last Friday, May 15, when bandits invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, about 9:30am.
Some teachers and students were abducted during the coordinated attacks on the schools, prompting the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, to deployed additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to collaborate with the joint security team in efforts to rescue the victims.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports that victims have been released, insisting that rescue operations were still ongoing.
The Commands spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka,
(DSP), in a press statement, said security agencies were continuing intensive efforts to secure the safe rescue of the victims and apprehend those behind the abduction, urging residents to remain calm, support the ongoing efforts of the joint security team and verify every piece of information before sharing it.
The Police warned that “the spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for the ongoing operations.”
