*Effluent Treatment Plant Minor Fire Swiftly Contained, Says Mgt

THE effluent plant section of Dangote Refinery was on Wednesday afternoon, June 26, 2024, gutted by fire, leading to apprehension in the neighbourhood.

Explosions were heard at the refinery located at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, with plumes of smoke billowing from the direction of the refinery.

Video footage circulating online showed thick black smoke rising from the affected most parts of the complex, with engineers on-site watching the smoke rise into the sky.

Reacting to the incident, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Group, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, in a terse statement, said the fire has been contained and there was no cause for alarm.

He stated: “We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP) today, Wednesday, 26th of June.

“There is no cause for alarm, as the refinery is operating normally and there are no recorded injuries or bodily harm to any of our staff on duty.”

The refinery, owned by Dr. Aliko Dangote, came into operation a few months ago and has become a key factor in Nigeria’s oil industry.
