Ibas Ignores Calls For Probe Of Rivers N283bn Funds During Emergency Rule

Published:

THERE are indications that the former sole administrator of Rivers State under the now lifted emergency rule, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), is not at ease with a close look at how his administration managed state funds.
Information from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation showed that Ibas received at least N283.3billion during his six-month tenure.
A breakdown showed that the federal government released N36.6billion in local government allocations for two months to Ibas, being January and February allocations for the 23 local governments earlier been withheld and not released to reinstated Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
In addition, he received N246.7billion between March and June as state and local government allocations.
In total, N283.3billion was released to Ibas, being January and February local government allocations, and March to June state and local government allocations.
The amount excludes monies realised from internally generated revenues generated during Ibas’ six months as sole administrator.
Following the lifting of the emergency rule, the state House of Assembly, in a resolution on the first day of resumption of plenary called for a probe into Ibas’ expenditure.
