Am Broke, Ex-Anambra Gov Cries Out
*Unable To Paying Creditors, Judgement Debt
By Chuks Collins, Awka
A FORMER governor of Anambra State (name withheld) has officially cried out vide a court affidavit that he is presently facing excruciating financial difficulties that he has not been meeting up his obligations, particularly after losses he incurred in the November 6, last year governorship election.
The ex-governor and senator, who once wielded so much influence at the country’s seat of power, attributed his very poor financial status to the huge money he spent in last year’s poll.
He lamented that he would not be able to meet up complete payment of his judgment debt to a popular billionaire businessman in the state he owes owing a substantial sum.
Consequently, he ex- governor, in his 41- paragraph affidavit sworn to personally, said he will face financial restraint and extreme hardship if compelled to pay the total judgment debt.
He stated that his financial downturn and the poor state of the country’s economy
were some of the factors that have placed him in a poor financial position; hence he could not pay the whole debt.
The ex-governor, whose tenure was very short-lived, bemoaned his poor financial state due to heavy expenditures he incurred in the last election and pleaded for time
to pay monthly installments to the creditor, which could be spread over a period of four years, noting that he had already paid N2million as part payment of the judgment debt.
The senator, in his motion, with supporting affidavits, sought an order of the court to stop further execution of its judgment, which had earlier been carried out by its enforcement unit.
It was gathered that the ex-governor, who is asking for judicial concessions to enable him pay the judgment debt, had in his defence submission claimed that the debt was a soft loan granted by the creditor as a donation for his campaign, which the Judge dismissed on the ground that the defendant did not bring any convincing evidence.
The judgment creditor had further filed a motion seeking an order of the court to auction the properties recovered from the residence of the ex-governor.
Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned until next month.
