AHEAD of the November 8 governorship election, the Anambra State Police Command has warned against the indiscriminate use of vehicles without number plates or with covered registration plates across the state.
The Command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP), said the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ikioye Orutugu, who issued the warning as part of measures to ensure security ahead of the election, described the act as a serious security breach often exploited by criminals to carry out attacks and evade arrest.
Ikenga stated: “Unregistered and covered vehicles pose a grave threat to public safety, especially at a time when security agencies are working tirelessly to guarantee peace before, during and after the election.”
He said Orutugu had directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Units to intensify patrols, conduct stop-and-search operations and impound any vehicle violating the order.
The Police boss, he added, urged Anambra residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, obey traffic regulations and promptly report suspicious persons or movements via the Command’s emergency numbers- 112 or 07039194332, assuring that the Command remained committed to maintaining law and order throughout the election period.
