DELTA State Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed grief and condoled the families of the victims of the boat mishap in Anambra State that led to the death of Nollywood actor, John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, and others, saying their deaths were excruciating and unfortunate.

The victims had taken off from Cable Point in Asaba, the state capital, on a movie shoot before the incident.

Oborevwori,  in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, said the state government was agonised over the unfortunate and untimely passing of Junior Pope and others in the mishap, urging Nollywood fans and stakeholders to accept the passing of the actors as an unfortunate incident, even as he prayed to God to grant the victims’ families, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the unfortunate losses.

“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I commiserate with the Nollywood industry and families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate boat mishap.

“May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace.”

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has visited the family of late make-up artist, Abigail Frederick, in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Council to console the bereaved family.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, who disclosed this in a statement  in Eket, said the governor, who described the death of the artist as very unfortunate, expressed deep emotions and shared in the pain of the grieving family members.

He quoted the governor as saying: “This is deeply unfortunate, a young girl, 24 years old, who finished her youth service just last year and decided to pursue her passion.

“This is a reflection of our Arise spirit. It shows that our young people are willing to go out there, not begging, not waiting for handouts, but to pursue their passions. It is sad and unfortunate that her life ended the way it did.”

“The governor also assured of Government’s assistance to the two sisters of the bereaved who are undergraduates at the University of Uyo, said to be sponsored by the late Nollywood make- up artist,” Udoh said.
