FreeNnamdiKanu Protest: Court Grants Sowore, Ejimakor, 11 Others Bail

A MAGISTRATE Court in the Kuje area of Abuja, on Friday, October 24, granted bail to former presidential candidate, human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, as well as Aloy Ejimakor, a member of the legal team that represented the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and 11 others.
Recall that Sowore was arrested on Thursday, October 23, as he was leaving the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja after briefly meeting with Kanu during his treason trial.
The Police later accused him of leading the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest into restricted areas within the city centre, in disobedience of a court order.
Following the Monday protest and his arrest and arraignment on Tuesday, October 22, the court had remanded Ejimakor and the 11 others at the Kuje Correctional Centre for allegedly inciting public disturbance during the protest.
The others granted bail were Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of the Indigenuous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader; Joshua Emmanuel; Wilson Anyalewechi; Okere Kingdom Nnamdi; Clinton Chimeneze; Gabriel Joshua; Isiaka Husseini; Onyekachi Ferdinand; Amadi Prince; Edison Ojisom; Godwill Obioma; and Chima Onuchukwu, who were arrested at different locations in Abuja on Monday while taking part in the protest.
Presiding Magistrate, Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The court also ordered them to present a verified National Identification Number (NIN), submit three years’ tax clearance certificates and surrender their international passports as part of the bail conditions.
