IT was celebration in the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as former governor of the state, Rashidi Adeolu Ladoja, was officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26.
Ladoja, 81, received the royal crown at the Ose Meji Temple in the Ibadan South-East Local Council, shortly after receiving the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan.
He was later formally presented with the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Mapo Hall, following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7.
The colourful installation ceremony, which had President Bola Tinubu in attendance, was also witnessed by hundreds of guests and residents of Ibadan, including the Alaafin Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye; Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun; former state governors Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun).
