I’m Still In Pain, Emmanson Says After Release From Prison

Published:

MS. Comfort Emmanson, the passenger aboard a Lagos-bound flight from Uyo, who allegedly assaulted a crew member and later arrested, charged to court and remanded in prison custody, has stated that she was still in pains due to how she was treated and required medical attention before she could share her full account of the incident, following her release on Wednesday, August 13.
While thanking her supporters, in a statement posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, August 13, shortly after regaining her freedom, Emmanson (#soft_commy) said she needed some rest and medical treatment before giving her own side of the story.
The full statement read: “Thank you so much for the prayers, love and support. I’ve been released from the prison, but I’m still in pains due to how I was treated.
“I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give out my own version of the event. Thank you so much, my lovely friends and supporters.
“I really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all. Thank you, my great God!!!”
An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, on Wednesday discharged Emmanson, who was acharged over her alleged unruly behaviour and assault of a crew member aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, August 10.
Presiding Magistrate, Olanrewaju Salami, struck out the five-count charge against her following the Police’s formal withdrawal of the case.
She was charged with disrupting the peace on board the flight, assaulted a crew member and conducted herself in a manner capable of breaching public order, to which she had pleaded not guilty.
But during Wednesday’s proceedings, Police Prosecutor, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court that the Complainant and the airline were no longer interested in pursuing the matter and applied for the withdrawal of the case, citing instructions from the Police authorities.
Following the application, Salami granted the request and ordered Emmanson’s discharge.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), confirmed her release, saying: “Emmanson has gone home from the court. I can confirm that.”
Keyamo had earlier in a statement said the decision to drop the charges against her followed consultations with critical stakeholders in the aviation sector and those involved in the “unfortunate incidents regarding the unruly behaviours of certain individuals at our airports of recent.”
