Kwankwaso To Defectors: Betrayal Will Be Punished In 2027

FORMER Kano State governor and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has issued warned politicians who abandoned the party or betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement, of dire consequences in the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso, speaking to BBC Hausa in Kaduna in remarks to mark his 69th birthday celebrations, stressed that defections and betrayals would not go unpunished.
The NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections cautioned that anyone who left his political camp and thinks he or she could return to Kano to win elections was deceiving him or herself, saying the movement’s philosophy is built on loyalty and principles, not hatred.
“We don’t set out to fight anyone. Those who leave us either do so voluntarily or engage in misconduct. If you insult or disrespect us publicly, knowing your history, we have no option but to act,” he added.
Kwankwaso dismissed rumours of a rift with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as fabrications by political opponents, even as he lauded Yusuf’s performance, stating: “We gave him the chance to deliver, and we continue to support him. Those claiming I control contracts or run the government are being mischievous.”
Ahead of 2027, he predicted a political shift, underscoring the growing political awareness of young Nigerians, noting: “Those making noise about defeating us in 2027 are living in denial.
“Young people are now more politically conscious. The coming election will not be like past ones where money decided everything.”
He reaffirmed confidence in the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in the north, adding: “Our movement is people-oriented and service-driven. Those who betrayed the cause will see the result of their actions at the polls.” Kwankwaso concluded.
