Lagos NURTW Leader, Shamelo, Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Assault, Murder

A ZONAL leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamusideen Oladiti, popuplarly called Shamelo, was on Tuesday, September 30, ordered to be remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Centre by a Lagos Magistrate Court, sitting in the Ebute-Metta Magisterial District, over alleged murder and multiple assaults on Lagos Island.
Oladiti, 55, was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on murder, conspiracy to commit grievous harm and assault causing grievous bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to the charge sheet, Oladiti, on August 27, this year, allegedly beat one Imam Ramon with his fists during a violent altercation on Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
Ramon was reported to have sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he later died from his wounds.
Count One read: “That you, Shamusideen Oladiti, ‘m,’ on the 27th August, 2025, about 1000hrs, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully beat Imam Ramon, ‘m,’ with fist blows all over his body, which caused him harm and was rushed to Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina Lagos, where he later died, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The second counts states: “That you, Shamusideen Oladiti, ‘m,’ and others at large, on the 17th September, 2025, at Lagos Island Lagos in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conspired amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit grievous harm, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
Count three reads: “That you Shamusideen Oladiti ‘m’ and others at large, on the same date, time and place within the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully beat Omale Samuel ‘m’ with fist blows which caused him grievous harm all over his body and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. 2015.”
In a related incident, Oladiti and others, still be at large, allegedly conspired to inflict grievous harm on another man, Omale Samuel, a dispatch rider, using fists and a motorcycle helmet.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
Magistrate A. O. Akinde ordered the Oladiti’s remand at Ikoyi Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until October 28, this year, for further hearing.
The case file is to be duplicated within 30 days and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for Legal advice.
