My Resignation Not Admission Of Wrongdoing, Says Gwarzo

DEPUTY Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has insisted that his resignation was in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, not an admission of any wrongdoing, as being alleged by the state government.
Gwarzo, in his resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Yusuf, explained that he voluntarily resigned to allow the government and state to move forward without undue distractions.
He stated: “I, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026, pursuant to Section 306(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“This decision has been reached after careful consultations and deep reflection, guided by my current experience and commitment to the peace, stability, and overall interest of the good people of Kano State.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions.
“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but rather as a conscious decision in the interest of institutional integrity, democratic values, and public service.”
Earlier this month, the state House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Gwarzo over alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, breach of public trust and financial malfeasance.
The Majority Leader, Lawan Dala, who read the notice of impeachment during plenary on March 5, claimed that while serving as commissioner for Local Government, Gwarzo, “wilfully participated in the diversion of funds allocated to local government administrations for purposes other than those for which they were appropriated.”
The Assembly has in February denied rumours of plots to impeach the deputy governor over his alleged refusal to follow the governor to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor, members of his cabinet and state lawmakers dumped the NNPP in January.
