Oborevwori Congratulates Delta Queens Over League Win

Published:

THE Governor of Delta State, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Delta Queens for winning the Nigeria Women’s Football League, (NWFL) tournament, tagged ‘Super 6.’

Recall that Delta Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens 2-1 to emerge winners of the competition on Sunday at the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, the state capital, earning them qualification to represent Nigeria in the forthcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) B Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.

Oborevwori, while receiving the trophy from the team on Sunday night, congratulated them for a hard fought victory, saying Delta is well known for sports and urged the players and coaches to prepare adequately for the sub-continental tournament.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Festus Ahon, Oborevwori described the team’s performance at the championship as a manifestation of their super outing during the regular season, where they topped Group B with 26 points, attributing their victory to hardwork, commitment and focus of the management, coaches and players.

The governor assured of his government’s continued support for the team to win more laurels for the state and the country, especially now that it has qualified to represent Nigeria at the WAFU Zone B play-off for the second CAF African Women’s Champions League in August this year.

He stated: “I congratulate the organisers for putting up such a quality tournament, where our darling team Delta Queens emerged worthy champions.

“This victory is particularly sweet for me, because we are winning it after 11 years. Therefore, on behalf of the government and people of Delta, I congratulate our dear Delta Queens for making us proud again.”
