*Describes Oval Office Meeting As ‘Regrettable,’ Ready For Peace Talks

UKRAINIAN President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has described his recent Oval Office meeting with United States (US) President, Donald Trump, as “regrettable,” admitting it did not go as expected.

Despite the heated exchange, Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine was ready to negotiate an end to the war, saying “nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians,” and affirming his willingness to work under Trump’s leadership to secure a lasting agreement.

In the statement published on March 2 on X, Zelenskyy also reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness to sign a minerals and security deal that had been postponed due to the confrontation in the White House, just as he outlined potential first steps toward a ceasefire, including a truce in the air and at sea, along with a mutual halt to attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure, if Russia reciprocates.

On March 4, Trump addressed Congress, reading aloud a letter from Zelenskyy, in which the Ukrainian leader reiterated his willingness to begin peace talks “as soon as possible.”

Trump acknowledged the gesture and claimed that he had received “strong signals from Russia” indicating its own readiness to negotiate an end to the conflict.
