PARENTS have continued to evacuate their children and wards from some Federal Government-owned boarding secondary schools, including the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Bwari, on the outskirts of Abuja, over mounting security concerns, despite denial that the schools were being shut.
The gates of some of the schools continue to witness scenes of anxious parents taking their children home.
Many of the students, some still in uniform, had their packed belongings loaded into private and commercial vehicles.
It was reported on Friday that the government had ordered the immediate shutdown of 47 unity school across the country, especially in the northern parts of the country, in a circular purportedly signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir.
However, the Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed the reports of nationwide closure of unity schools in the country from Monday, November 24, due to rising insecurity.
A statement by the ministry’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, on Saturday, November 22, said the message circulating on social media platforms was false, misleading and did not originate from the Federal Government or the ministry.
According to the statement: “The Federal Ministry of Education hereby informs the general public that a message currently circulating on social media platforms, alleging that schools nationwide have been directed to close from 24th November 2025, is false, misleading and did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any state Ministry of Education or any recognised security agency.
