OPERATIVES attached to the Agbor Division of the Delta State Police Command have arrested one 25-year-old Musa Buhari in Alihiagu community in Agbor, Ika South Local Council, over his role in the abduction and eventual murder of a 53-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Friday Orumgbe, from Idumu-Oza, Agbor.
The Command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, in a statement, said Orumgbe went missing on October 6, shortly after he left home with his Lifan motorcycle.
He said his family reported him missing the next day and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Michael Obekpa (CSP), immediately launched an investigation, adding that through intelligence gathering, officers arrested Buhari on October 16, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 phone from him.
During interrogation, Buhari was said to have confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (now at large), posed as passengers, lured the motorcyclist into a bush near Power Line, Oki in Agbor and attacked him with a hoe before taking away his motorcycle and phone.
The next day, October 17, Edafe stated, Police led the suspect to the crime scene, where they found the victim’s decomposed body, which was later identified by his family before the remains were taken to the Central Hospital Mortuary in Agbor for autopsy.
Edafe said Buhari was being detained, while efforts to apprehend Usman continued.
In another development, the ‘A’ Division in Warri, led by Ya’u Kangiwa (CSP), arrested two suspects during a night patrol in the Ubeji community on October 19, following reports of renewed cult clashes in the area.
He explained: “About 3a.m., a patrol team spotted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL359DS, Abuja) parked suspiciously, with two people inside, 33-year-old Christian Agbajor Akpos and 26-year-old Sophia Thomas.
“When questioned, the duo could not explain why they were out at such late hours. A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of one locally-made cut-to-size double-barrel gun; one battle axe; one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.
“Police investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of the MAPHITE confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He confessed that the gun was given to him by a man known as Mr. Shimaye, said to be the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community.
“Both suspects are now in Police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover more weapons.”
