Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Recover Firearms In Delta

Published:

OPERATIVES of the Delta State Police Command have arrested one Kingsley Ugochukwu, aged 40, suspected to be a cultist and armed robber, and recovered two locally-fabricated firearms during an operation on June 9, in Asaba, the state capital.
According to a press statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe (SP), operatives from the DOPS Buffalo Team, led by Charles Evboifo (DSP), stormed a local food canteen used as a known hideout by cultists and critiminals.
He said during the raid, Ugochukwu was nabbed while attempting to dispose a locally-made Beretta pistol upon sighting the operatives.
His arrest took a dramatic turn during preliminary investigations when he made a suspicious phone call to his wife, leading the officers to expand the scope of the inquiry.
Edafe had during the call instructed his wife to remove another weapon, a long-range, single-barrel gun, from their residence and conceal same in an uncompleted building.
She too was subsequently arrested and her confession led to the recovery of the second firearm.
The Command’s spokesman said the arrest raises concerns about the growing sophistication and coordination among suspected criminals, even within domestic environments, while the use of locally-fabricated weapons highlights a troubling trend of illicit arms production and distribution.
The Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, while reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to crime prevention and community safety, urged the public to support the Police by sharing timely and credible intelligence that could aid in proactive interventions.
“We remain resolute in dismantling criminal networks and protecting law-abiding citizens. Public cooperation remains vital to this effort,” he stated.
