DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has described First Lady, Remi Tinubu, as a blessing to the country, citing her compassion, humility and commitment to the poor and vulnerable.
Oborevwori, speaking at a grand homecoming reception held in honour of the First Lady at the palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, thebgovernor praised Mrs. Tinubu’s record of public service, recalling her years in the senate and her advocacy for policies that positively impact Nigerians, noting: “We are blessed to have a humble and compassionate First Lady, who genuinely cares for the poor and the vulnerable in our communities.”
Describing her as a worthy daughter of the Itsekiri Nation, Oborevwori said the visit marked the First Lady’s third official visit to Delta State within two years, recalling her August 2024 visit to flag off the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) empowerment programme for the South-South in Asaba, and her March 2025 visit to launch the Free to Shine programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives across the region.
He commended Mrs. Tinubu’s respect for traditional institutions, saying her decision to honour royal fathers outside the formal programme during a previous visit strengthened ties between the state government and traditional rulers.
He reaffirmed the state’s support for President Bola Tinubu and his reforms, assuring the First Lady that the state would continue to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
At a well-attended reception, Mrs. Tinubu was conferred with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse, also known as Ugbone, meaning ‘The Light of God.’
The colourful ceremony attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, women groups and community stakeholders.
Receiving the honour, the First Lady described the recognition as deeply personal, acknowledging her maternal roots in Warri and used the occasion to call for stronger unity across ethnic, political and social lines, saying peace and prosperity thrive where people dwell together in harmony.
Quoting Psalm 133, she reminded the gathering that unity attracts divine blessings and national growth, adding: “Where there is unity, there is prosperity. The Bible tells us that it is pleasant to dwell together in unity, for there is where God commanded blessings.
She referenced the coincidence of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim fasting period as a reminder of the need for togetherness, urging Nigerians to rise above divisions.
Through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), she announced a N50million grant to support 1,000 women petty traders in the state to underscores her administration’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment and inclusive development.
Atuwatse III praised the First Lady’s leadership and humanitarian efforts, urging his people to put aside past grievances to foster lasting peace and progress.
