SOUTHEAST stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have strongly rejected the meeting held at the Enugu State Government House, led by the factional National Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, describing all decisions reached at the gathering as nullity.
The stakeholders, at meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, May 20, convened by the new National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the party, Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, reaffirmed its support for the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The meeting, attended by the immediate past governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; Anyanwu; Senators Michael Amah Nnachi and Paulinus Igwe Nwagu; Mr. Jones Onyeriri; Zonal Legal Adviser, Mr. Ukpai Ukairo; Zonal Organising Secretary, Mr. Mike Ahumibe; as well as Imo and Abia states chairmen of the party, among others, restated their call for the National Working Committee (NWC) to obey the Supreme Court ruling “that explicitly reaffirmed the position of Anyanwu as National Secretary of the party.”
The stakeholders, in a communique signed at the end of the meeting, called on the NWC and the general public to disregard the Enugu meetin, reiterating their call for the immediate conduct of congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states, which they alleged do not have valid State Working Committees.
The communique recalled several courts judgments affirming the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Odefa as the National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the PDP, urging the Zonal Working Committee to immediately institute “contempt of court” proceedings against him.
The stakeholders urged all party members and leaders to support the Senator Bukola Saraki-led reconciliation committee to mediate in the festering internal leadership crisis in the interest of the survival of the party.
