Tinubu Applauds Obasanjo’s Service To Nigeria, Africa As He Turns 89

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he turned 89 on Thursday, March 5.
Tinubu, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, March 4, rejoiced with Obasanjo, noting that his towering influence continues to resonate across Nigeria, Africa and the international community.
The President acknowledged the courage and sacrifices of the former head of state between 1976 and 1979, who superindended the transition that led to a return to civilian rule in 1979, as well as being first civilian President in the Fourth Republic, serving from 1999 to 2007.
Tinubu also highlighted Obasanjo’s historic experiences, including his role at the war front in preserving Nigeria’s unity during the civil war, imprisonment for speaking out against military dictatorship and consistent advocacy for Africa’s political and economic advancement on the global stage.
He commended the former president’s continued contributions to national discourse through his books and regular interventions on issues of governance and developmen, saying there are a reflection of Obasanjo’s enduring patriotism and commitment to nation-building.
Tinubu prayed for more years of good health, strength and wisdom for Obasanjo as he continues to serve Nigeria and humanity.
