Tinubu Meets, Gets Briefing From Security Chiefs, Orders Withdrawal Of Police Officers Guarding VIPs

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, after receiving briefings from the security chiefs in closed-door meeting with at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Sunday, November 23, has ordered the withdrawal of Police personnel from VIP security duties.
The meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyode; Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj-Gen. EAP Undiendeye; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun; and Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, have not been disclosed.
Although the details of the meeting was sketchy, but it may not be unconnected with the several abductions in some northern parts of the country.
Tinubu directed Police authorities to deploy personnel to concentrate on their core Police duties, saying VIPs in need of Police protection should request well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shortly after the meeting, noted that many parts of Nigeria, especially remote areas, have few policemen at the stations, thereby making the task of protecting and defending the people difficult.
He stated: “In view of the current security challenges facing the country, President Tinubu is desirous of boosting Police presence in all communities.
“Already, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional Police officers. The Federal Government is also collaborating with the states to upgrade Police training facilities nationwide.”
