Tinubu Reverses Dakingari’s Turkey Ambassadorial Posting

Published:

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, on Friday, january23, dropped the name of a former governor of Kebbi State, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, from the newly posted envoys, citing a mix-up.
An earlier memo issued to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday night, announced the posting of four envoys from the 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December last year, including Ayodele Oke (France), Lateef Are (United States), Amin Dalhatu (United Kingdom) and Dakingari Suleiman (Turkey).
However, hours after the initial announcement, the Presidency cited a naming error in the posting to Turkey, saying the appointment of an ambassador-designate to Turkey was still under review; hence be disregarded, even as it afirmed the three other postings.
The phased postings comes over one year after Nigeria recalled most of its career and non-career ambassadors from foreign missions, leaving chargés d’affaires to run Nigeria’s embassies and high commissions since September 2023.
The confusion over the Turkey posting is all the more striking as President Tinubu visits the country next week.
