PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, commence a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
While in Japan, Tinubu will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
Themed, ‘Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,’ TICAD9 will focus on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business environment, strengthening institutions and fostering private investment and innovation, as well as address building a resilient and sustainable African society that promotes human security, peace and stability.
In Yokohama, the President will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of leading Japanese firms investing in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Government of Japan, and co-hosted by the United Nations (UN), UNDP, the African Union Commission and the World Bank, TICAD is a triennial conference alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was held in Tunisia in August 2022.
The forum provides a high-level platform for dialogue between African leaders and global development partners.
At the conclusion of TICAD9, Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia, capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
While there, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks with his host, attend a Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum and witness the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening economic, trade and technical cooperation.
He will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials who will engage their counterparts in both countries to strengthen strategic partnerships.
