*The Law Has Spoken, Says Wike
THE National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal nullifying its November 15 and 16, last year, national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Spokesperson of the faction, Ini Ememobong, in a statement, said the party’s lawyers had been instructed to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court.
Ememobong said the faction believed implementing the judgment would cause significant hardship for members of the party, adding: “The operationalisation of this judgment will, without fail, impose untold hardship on our members.
“To avert this, while we consult with critical organs of our party on the way forward, we have instructed our lawyers to immediately take the necessary legal steps to appeal to the Supreme Court for a final determination of the matter.”
He expressed optimism that the apex court would swiftly resolve the dispute in the interest of democracy.
The spokesman urged party members to remain united, assuring that the legal dispute would soon be resolved and PDP must be rescued “from the hands of those masquerading as opposition leaders.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the judgment as a wake-up call and an opportunity for members of the party to look inward and salvage the situation to move forward.
Speaking at his residence in Abuja on Monday, shortly after visiting the Kwali Area Council as part of his thank-you tour, Wike said anyone who truly loves the party should not take the matter to the Supreme Court, saying doing so would only prolong the internal crisis.
“We have fought, let us now drop personal interest. If you are a lover of the party, you will not go to the Supreme Court.
“But if that is what they want, we are always ready.”
