Two Kidnapped Doctors, Others Rescued In C’River

*NMA Chairman Confirms Members’ Release

AT least six persons, including a Chief Superintendent of Customs, two medical doctors, Deputy Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and two others have been rescued by the Police tactical teams on anti-kidnapping unit in Cross River State.

  It was gathered that the six persons were rescued following pressure mounted on the kidnappers by the tactical teams, forcing them to release their victims unharmed around Uyanga Rubber Plantations in Akampka Local Council.  Those rescued include Ekok Emmanuel Agbor, Dr. Omini Itam, Dr. Egon Ekpo Etim, Deputy Route Commander FRSC and two others.

  Sources told TheCardinal that the victims were released in the wee hours of Tuesday, November 22 and debriefed around 3a.m., while measures to clear the contiguous forest along the highway to restore public confidence was ongoing, with patrols in progress from Calabar to Bekwarra as part of efforts to sustain freedom of movement and social harmony in the area.

  Spokesman of the state Police Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the release of the victims.

  State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Felix Archibong, also confirmed that the two members of the association have been released.

  Archibong commended Governor Ben Ayade for the swift response and security agencies, including the Police, Nigerian Army and the other sister agencies for their efforts in securing the release of the victims.
