THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has approved the redepolyment of 132 Police officers from the Edo State Command, in an ongoing administrative reorganisation within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Recall that a similar exercise occured in the Delta State Command in April this year, following the extra-judicial killing of an upcoming musician, Mene Ogidi, by a Police officer in broad daylight in Effurun area of the state, over alleged criminal suspicion.
The execution-style murder attracted wide condemnation from Nigeria and beyond, and led to the arrest, detention and dismissal of four officers, who are yet to be charged to court.
This latest development, according to SaharaReporters, was contained in an internal Police signal, dated May 12, and referenced, CH: 5360/EDS/VOL.15/55.
The directive, issued from the office of the Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Edo State Police Command Headquarters, Benin City, said the redeployment followed the IGP’s approval, and in line with an earlier Police communication, referenced, CH: 5360/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.42/185 dated May 3.
The memo was addressed to Deputy Commissioners of Police in charge of Operations and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Area Commanders across the state, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, X-Squad, Divisional Police Officers and all departmental heads within the Command.
