*He Cannot Remain Where He Doesn’t Have Total Control, Says Ahmad

THE vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has reportedly threatened to quit the party if his loyalists are replaced with other aspirants as candidates in next year’s general elections.
The party has reportedly replaced several candidates earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State over an alleged breach of a power-sharing agreement.
According to a document signed by the state Chairman, Hussaini Isah Mairiga, the changes were made to reflect the earlier agreement on the distribution of party positions and elective tickets between the existing NDC structure and Kwankwasiyya bloc.
The document was copied to National Leader, Seriake Dickson, Kwankwaso and the party’s Northwest Zonal chairman.
Under the revised list, the party approved Isma’il Idris Sani for (Kumbotso Federal Constituency); Nasiru Ali Ahmed (Nassarawa); Kabiru Ishaq Sa’id (Kano Municipal); Dayyabu Jamilu Ibrahim (Doguwa/Tudun Wada); Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar (Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa); Ibrahim Bashir Bango (Sumaila/Takai); and Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mairigar Fata (Gwale).
Other adjustments were also made to state House of Assembly tickets in Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo and Dawakin Kudu State Constituencies.
NDC explained that there was a standing agreement for elective positions and party offices to be shared on a 60-40 basis, with the Kwankwasiyya bloc receiving 60 per cent and the original party structure retaining 40 per cent.
Meanwhile, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Bashir Ahmaad”, in his reaction on X, asserted: “I have told many people that Kwankwaso cannot comfortably remain in any political party where he does not enjoy total control, particularly over the Kano State party structure.
“This was one of the major reasons he left the APC in 2018, despite the fact that there was arguably no better political platform available for him to advance his ambition.
“For Kwankwaso, maintaining complete dominance over the party machinery in Kano has always been a non-negotiable priority.”
