THE National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State, has confirmed the attack on its vicinity in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, assuring that the situation had been brought under control.
A statement by its Head, Public Affairs Department, Osime Samuel, said there was no further threat to participants, staff, residents and facilities, as normal activities were continuing as scheduled.
The statement stated that security personnel and relevant security agencies responded swiftly to contain the situation, while security agencies had commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and cautioned against speculation.
It added: “As investigations are ongoing, it would be premature to speculate on the nature, scope or outcome of the event.
“The Institute is, therefore, unable to confirm details currently circulating on social media and other unofficial platforms.”
The Institute said it was working closely with the appropriate authorities and would provide verified information as soon as it becomes available, urging the public and media to rely only on official communications from the Institute and relevant security agencies.
The management also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of members of the Institute community and commended the professionalism of security personnel involved in the response, noting that further updates would be communicated in due course.
