Oborevwori Commends Police Over Electric Cable Vandals’ Arrest

DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the state Police Command over the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and recovery of vandalised cables, describing the operation as a major step in protecting critical public infrastructure across the state.

    The Command said acting on credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu-Ugiliamai Road, its operatives of Kwale Police Station, in a combined effort with members of the vigilante group, on June 25, about 10.30am, swiftly mobilised to the scene, where the suspects were arrested, while one of them sustained injury and was receiving treatment at the hospital.

    In a statement by its spokesman, Bright Edafe (SP), the Command explained that one of the suspects, later identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were taken into custody, while the vandalised cables had been recovered as exhibits.

    Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, praised the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, officers and men of the Command for their prompt response and sustained commitment to combating criminal activities, particularly the vandalism of government-owned facilities. 

    He also commended the local vigilante group for their support and cooperation with security agencies in the state, adding that the arrest demonstrated government’s resolve to safeguarding public assets and ensuring investments in infrastructure continue to serve the people without disruption.

    The governor urged residents to continue to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would assist in the fight against crime, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all Deltans.
