Soldiers Rescue Six Kidnap Victims In Katsina

*Police Foil Bandits’ Attack, Nab Housewife For Murder Attempt

TROOPS of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a routine patrol in Faskari Local Council of Katsina State.

    A statement on Tuesday, June 30, by the Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Capt. Abayomi Adisa, said the victims were rescued on June 29, when troops deployed at Unguwan Doka, while on a routine foot patrol, intercepted the victims, made up of four women and two male children, wandering in the bush after escaping from their abductors.

    He stated: “The victims were identified as Umaima Isiaku, 30; Amina Isiaku, 16; Safiya Isiaku, 15; Ramatu Suleiman, 30; Muhammad Shehu, 4, and Ibrahim Suleiman, 2.

    “Preliminary investigation revealled that the victims were abducted by armed bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area on June 22, 2026. 

    “Following their rescue, the troops administered first aid, provided food and other immediate necessities before reuniting them with their families.

    In a related development, the state Police Command said it successfully foiled a bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Council and arrested a housewife for attempted culpable homicide in a separate domestic incident in the metropolitan area. 

    The Command’s spokesman, Abubakar Aliyu (DSP), in a statement on Tuesday, said the attack was thwarted about 6:30p.m. on June 28, when a group of armed bandits were sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme road in Dandume Local Council, ostensibly on their way to carry out the attacks.

    Aliyu stated that security operatives moblised and engaged the group in a fun battle, forcing the bandits to abandon their mission and flee, while two operational motorcycles and a machete were recovered from the scene.

    He said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects. 

    Aliyu also disclosed that operatives arrested a housewife, Sadiya Lawal, 23, for attacking her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim, with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat, resulting in a deep injury to his neck. 

    He explained: “On June 29, 2026, about 9a.m., one Jamilu Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Division, Katsina, that on the same date, about 5:30 a.m., while he was asleep, his wife, one Sadiya Lawal, 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat. 

    “The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck.

    “Following the report, the victim was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention. 

    “The scene was visited, the suspect arrested and the sharp knife suspected to be used in the commission of the offence recovered. 

    “The suspect is in custody under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

    The Command’s spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, while commending the swift response of the officers, urged the public to always resolve domestic issues through peaceful and lawful channels.
