Spotify Releases Asake’s M$NEY Concert Film

Published:

AFROBEATS star, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has released the concert film of the acclaimed M$NEY live performance exclusively on Spotify.

The music streaming platform, in a statement on Friday, July 24, said the film captured Asake’s landmark one-night-only performance of his chart-topping album at the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, the United Kingdom (UK), which featured four previously unreleased songs, marked the first time the singer had performed tracks from the album live since its release in May.

Spotify noted that the project marks its first full-length live album performance, accompanied by an audio-only live album, while the video will be exclusive to the platform upon release.

It stated that no fewer than 2,000 fans attended the black-tie, invite-only event, which included many of Asake’s top listeners on the streaming platform.

Backed by a live orchestra, a 40-member choir and acclaimed live band, The Compozers, Asake performed songs from M$NEY atthe show, which also marked the first time an Afrobeats artiste headlined the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

To celebrate the release, Spotify hosted an exclusive premiere screening of the concert film at its recently opened Listening Lounge in central London.

Speaking on the release, Asake described the performance as a reflection of the themes behind the album, which is “gratitude, growth, my spiritual and creative journey all in one,” adding: “Everything flows from a place of gratitude to God and every moment that has shaped me and I hope that comes through.

“M$NEY was always meant to travel. When you feel good music, you feel it in your chest. That is what I wanted this album to be, something that crosses every border.

“I start touring the album later this year but I always like to give my fans a few surprises, which I was able to do with this performance.

“I’m glad we’re able to share it with fans worldwide.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), M$NEY, a project centred on themes of gratitude, prosperity, spirituality and ambition has enjoyed significant commercial success since its release, topping streaming charts in over 19 countries, including Nigeria, and peaking at number eight in the United States (US).

Following the album’s success, Asake was ranked the 15th biggest digital artiste globally by Kworb Data, thereby placing him among some of the world’s leading music acts.
