THE Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) abducted in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement in statement on Monday, August 31, by its spokesperson, Afusat Oyiza Saliu.
Recall that several corps members were on Wednesday, August 26, attacked and kidnapped along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Council of the state while returning from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Council of Bayelsa State.
Earlier, the Command said one of its operations led to “the successful rescue of 11 abducted victims, including the drivers of the two buses,” saying “most” of those rescued were identified as corps members.
Though the number of victims could not be ascertained, the Command said the rescue team was made up of the Police, military and the Department of State Services (DSS), adding: “The rescue operation was achieved through a coordinated, sustained and intelligence-driven operation by the joint security forces, as part of concerted efforts to secure the safe recovery of the victims, dismantle the criminal elements operating in the area, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Command wishes to emphasise that the operation is still ongoing, with the potential to rescue all the kidnapped victims.
“Security forces have intensified operations within the area and are making concerted efforts to locate and safely recover the remaining victims, while simultaneously pursuing the perpetrators responsible for the attack.”
