Umahi: I’m Satisfied With Pace, Quality Of Work On Lagos-Calabar Highway

THE Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed satisfaction over the quality and pace of work being carried out on the Lagos-Calabar Coaster Highway, reiterating that the project was on course to sustain the hope in President Bola Tinubu.

   Umahi, speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the project, described the highway as one of the most critical projects in the works sector and a critical national economic pillar.

   He said government was interfacing with all host states along the highway to provide the needed land for the establishment of economically viable towns along the corridor to enable communities reap the full economic benefits associated with the project. 

   The minister explained that the dredging processes, excavation works, de-watering and sand-filling, as well as placement of crushed stone base, cement stabilisation of the base course, drainage works and culverts, among other processes, were progressing satisfactorily. 

   He said: “The first phase of the highway is to be completed within 36 months. Provision has been made for a train station at the Ikorodu junction of the road, which will also provide a link to the Ikorodu-Sokoto highway.”

Also speaking, Chairman of Senate Committee on Works, Senator Barinada Mpigi, and his House Representatives counterpart, Mr. Akin Alabi, promised the unflinching support of the National Assembly in area of funding through appropriation to ensure that the all-important project is completed in record time.
