NNPC Explains Why Fuel Scarcity In Abuja

THE Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Limited has given reasons for the current fuel scarcity and queues being experienced in some parts of Abuja and its environs, saying this was due to delays in the arrival of fuel trucks.

NNPC stated this on Thursday while assuring the public that it has sufficient stock of petroleum products, advising against panic buying.

The company in a statement on Thursday by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Garba Muhammad, said the scarcity was due to heavy flooding that had submerged parts of the highway passing through Kogi State, as well as impact of a failed road section around Badegi-Agaie highway in Niger State.

“Consequently, vehicles, especially fuel tankers, are finding alternative roads to get to their intended destinations. NNPC Ltd is working assiduously, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, to open up this major highway.

“While we do that, we urge the general public to remain calm and not to engage in panic buying of petroleum products.”

He assured that the current situation was temporary and not a result of shortage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), as the company has a 30-day products’ sufficiency.
