Factional Rivers Assembly ‘Bars Fubara From Appropriating State Funds

Published:

THE Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly has shut down all expenditures of the state until Governor Siminalayi Fubara presents his budget before the House.

This followed the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum the faction issued the governor to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill to the House for its consideration and approval.

Following a motion informing the House about the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to re-present the Bill before the House by Major Jack, the Amaewhule-led Assembly resolved that Fubara was no longer allowed to approve or authorise expenditure from the consolidated revenue fund of the state nor were ministries permitted to spend public funds until the Bill was re-presented.

Fubara has consistently insisted that the members of the Amaewhule faction, who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, ceased to be lawmakers following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform they were elected, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the peak of the political crisis that engulfed the state as a result of disagreement between the governor and his predecessor.
