Yusuf Reinstates Dethroned Emir Of Gaya, Appoints New Emirs For Karaye, Rano

Published:

IN what many observers may see as vendetta against the Bayero royal family, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Wednesday, July 16, approved the appointment of three second class Emirs for Rano and  Karaye, as well as the reinstatement of the dethroned emir of Gaya Emirates.

A statement issued by his the Director General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, and made available to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, July 16, explained that the new emirates were to serve as second-class emirates, with Kano as first-class emirate.

It said the  appointments took immediate effect.

In the new order, Alhaji Aliyu Gaya was reinstated and named as the Emir of Gaya, though in lower class, while Alhaji Muhammad Karaye, who until now was the District Head of Rogo, as Emir of Karaye, and Alhaji Muhammad Umar, who was the District Head of Bunkure, was named Emir of Rano.

Unlike the other deposed emirs, Abdulkadir accepted his fate and expressed willingness to work in any capacity after his deposition was announced.

While congratulating the newly appointed emirs, Yusuf enjoined them to be custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.

Rano covers Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Local Councils; Gaya covers Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu Local Councils, while Karaye covers Karaye and Rogo Local Councils.

The Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirate Council establishment Bill, which created the additional three emirates, on Tuesday, July 16, which was assented to by the governor the same day.

Speaking after signing the Bill into the law at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf said establishment of the emirates was a testament that the government recognised the traditional institution.
