Burna Boy: ‘Go Home To Mommy And Sin No More’
NIGERIAN singer and online personality, Speed Darlington, who was arrested on Tuesday, October 8, and detained following a petition from Afrobeat super star, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, for alleged cyberstalking, has been released.
The comedian and content creator, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was released on bail on Wednesday, October 9, by the Police on bail.
The controversial Akpi musician was released to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, after meeting bail conditions stipulated by Police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s Department in the Guzape area of Abuja.
Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos and taken to various formations in the state before he was taken to Abuja and detained by the IRT team, which accused him of cyberstalking Burna Boy.
According to Adeyanju, there was nothing in the petition to warrant Darlington’s arrest, adding: “I have met Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits. We are working to get him released on bail as soon as possible.”
His mother, known as Queen, had earlier in a video message alleged that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for her son’s disappearance, narrating how her son’s gate-man informed her that Darlington was taken away by Burna Boy and his team.
Queen had begged Burna Boy to release her son, kneeling down in the video to show her desperation, after Darlington was declared missing.
She said: “Nigerians, please come and help me. My son, Speed Darlington, has been missing for over four days now after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy.
“Burna Boy came to his house with his squad and Police and they arrested Akpi. Please, Nigerians, Akpi is my only son. Please, Nigerians, help me and beg Burna Boy to release my son.”
In response, Odogwu, as Burna Boy is fondly called, according to Music Base Africa, said: “Seeing your mom on her knees begging me to release you got me emotional. I cherish all the mom’s out there.
“For over 20 years of life, I worked hard, dropping classics and getting zero attention. Many told me to give up and chase a better career. Many made mockery of me and said music wasn’t my thing.
“Today, after so many years of putting in work, I’m a successful artist and one unfortunate dude somewhere is on the Internet, saying abominable things about my career, simply because he has a mouth.
“If not of your mama, you would’ve stayed in jail for the exact number of years I stayed underground as an artiste. Go home to Mommy and sin no more.”
