THE Ondo State Government has intensified efforts at building a sustainable and effective security architecture with the approval of a comprehensive welfare package for officers and men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.
Speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, said the initiative by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was aimed at boosting the morale of security operatives and enhancing their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Ajanaku stated that the governor approved the enlistment of Amotekun personnel into the Ondo State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to enable operatives and their families access quality healthcare services, describing the move as part of the administration’s deliberate efforts to improve the welfare and productivity of personnel at the forefront of the state’s security operations.
He disclosed that the governor has also approved the issuance of Warrants of Service Enlistment to Amotekun officers and personnel, pending the completion of the required legal framework, a decision that would further strengthen the institutional framework of the corps and improve operational efficiency.
Ajanaku stated that operatives would also benefit from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), in addition to the existing life insurance policy already in place, to reflect the government’s recognition of the sacrifices and dedication of Amotekun personnel in maintaining peace and security across the state.
Ajanaku disclosed that over 650 operatives had been strategically deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure adequate security before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, assuring residents that government remains committed to proactive measures that would sustain peace and public safety.
He also revealled that the Corps recently arrested 98 suspected criminals, including fake lunatics allegedly linked to kidnapping and robbery across the state, noting that the arrests demonstrated the agency’s resolve to combat criminality and reinforce public confidence in the state’s security system.
