Delta Assembly Declares Seat Vacant As Lawmaker Defects From APC To NDC

Published:

THE Delta State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, June 30, declared the Udu State Constituency seat vacant after its occupier, Collins Ogbetamah, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The decision followed the reading of Ogbetamah’s letter, dated June 19, notifying the House of his defection, by the Speaker, Dennis Guwor.

Following deliberations, Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, invoking relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), moved a motion declaring the seat vacant and requesting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a by-election to fill the position.

The motion was unanimous supported by members; hence the Speaker officially declared the seat vacant, in compliance with constitutional provisions governing legislative defections and vacancies.
